Garden Tools
I’ve been gardening as long as I can remember. While I do have a few specific brand preferences when it comes to tools, what’s really important to me is having a few really sturdy tools that work.
Too many tools can be just as much of an issue as not enough! If you’re overwhelmed by your tool shed or garage, it may be time to seriously pare back. Tools that are still in good working condition may be helpful for a community garden near you. Habitat Restores also typically accept tool donations. Broken tools should be taken to the dump—metal parts may be recyclable.
Note: for any specific garden, you may not need all of these tools and supplies! However, this list is based on our standard tool kit that most of our maintenance team has with them at all times—these are “battle tested” recommendations!
I also highly recommend putting together most of your hand tools in some kind of “kit” to make it easy to grab and go out to the garden. Buckets can be a simple solution. There are also many tool bags available, like the ones from Bucket Boss.
